To iPhone3Gs, or not to iPhone3Gs...that is the question?

So I'm going into college very soon, and I'll be receiving a free laptop upon my arrival. I'm contemplating on whether or not buying the iPhone3Gs would be a pointless investment since I'll be getting a laptop...my friend has an iPhone3G, and I find it quite convenient, being able to look up anything, having a great camera on hand, on top of having all of your music with you. I have a Palm Centro as of now, and it sucks. If I get the iPhone3Gs and pay $500, plus $50 monthly for unlimited texting and the required fee for unlimited data, on top of paying car insurance and paying off my car altogether $160 a month and with my savings around $2300, PLUS my wanting to go do things (involving money) before I leave for college.......is the iPhone3Gs worth it?! HELPPPP
