What is a simple diction?

For instance, rewrite this sentence using a simple diction. "For ten seconds let us regard with discreet scrutiny some inconsequential object in the other direction." I think It might mean just write a simplier sentence but I can't be sure. I'm on indpendent studies so I'm trying to teach myself.
