Why do Scorpio guys play push and pull so much?

just when i thought we've gotten to the point where we knew each other well enough, we were open with one another and have been through many things and shared a lot together, he goes berserk on me. he starts to push me away with attitude and frustration. i've experienced his moments of wanting to be alone and needing space before and usually it's out of nowhere with no real explanation. after a given amount of time, he's back to normal like nothing happened. i'm always left guessing/wondering and not knowing the real reasons. we have to see each other every day due to work and it's tough. i give him his space, but sometimes he angers me with his jerky attitude that i start to back off and then he goes into pull mode like he's afraid that i'll be gone for good. they are said to be sensitive, intuitive, intense and emotional, yet do they realize what they are doing to the people that love and care for them the most?
